As the people rebuild the temple, they face discouragement in realizing that the new temple pales in comparison to what once stood. Haggai reminds them that God is with them and that His glory will be greater in the present than it was in the former. God always grants us His peace in the place of unmet expectations.

Ezra tells us that the people had become discouraged and afraid because of their surrounding adversaries. Haggai reminds them that God is with them. Sometimes we too must be a Haggai in someone’s life. We are to come alongside of them and encourage them to continue the work God has called them to.
